by the end of today, i will finish/will have finished chapter two

Just 'will' in the simple future is used when we do not set a specific date or time for completion -It's open ended. We let spontaneity take care of it -'*****-nilly'. However, by stating a deadline -by the end of the day -, we are using 'will have' -the future perfect tense.

Hello, Anonymous:

(1) I shall NOT answer your question as stated because I am not sure. (And we non-experts have been warned

not to post answers unless we are sure pretty sure.)

(2) But I AM sure if you were to arrange your two sentences like this:

I will finish Chapter 2 by the end of the day. (Correct. Very popular English.)

I will have finished Chapt
