hey guys i was just wondering, say we're talking about someone who said he's gay (this is an example i have nothing against them, nothing at all) would you say "jim said he's gay" or "jim said he was gay" i know the question may seem silly hahaha but any help would be apprieciated Emotion: smile thank you friends! If you 'have nothing against' gay people, why do you mention it at all? You can use either verb. A native speaker would more likely regress it to 'was' because the sentence is reported speech.

hey man thanks a lot for the help! and i know you're totally right i shouldn't have brought it up at all it's just i was watching this show and thats exactly what the guy said and i just thought i'd use it as my example really sorry if i offended you man! i believe all humans are equal haha thanks again for the help man it's much apprieciated!
