"the managers at company x took some money.

however, since the company belongs/belonged to them, i believe it does/did not matter."

1. if the company still belongs to them currently, do you use past tense or present tense in the above sentence.

2. "does not matter" is more correct right?

However, since they own the company, I believe it does not matter." (That was my view at the time, and is still the way I see it.)

However, since they own the company, I believed it did not matter." (However, now that I realize that this is actually fraud, I no longer believe that - it does matter!)
