Why the answers are these?

I have two sentences with two sets of words, can you tell me why the answers are the ones underlined?

Would you mind bring/fetching Tom from the other room?

It is the most historical/historic moments in Chinese history.

I cannot tell why, but they sound more fitting to me. :-)

Would you mind bring/fetching Tom from the other room? The construction 'would you mind' requires a noun-like object, which in this case is the gerund 'fetching'.
