Unknown story; please help
i read a book as a child about a man in the 1930's mid west of america travelling with his family when he comes across a house with an old man dead in the kitchen, there is a note saying cut the corn and you will be provided for , so the man cuts the corn and each stalk represents a life, please help identify theis story for me it is driving me nuts!
