The gate

Do I change this sentence into passive correctly?

1. They would like us to paint the gate.

2. They would like the gate to be painted by us.

Thanks.

Hi,

Both #1 and #2 are fine. #1 would be more commonly said.

It's true that some might prefer 'They would like for the gate to be painted by us' but I would like for all such people to be taken to some remote island where they can speak such awful English only to each other. ha-ha.

Best wishes, Clive
