Singular or plural?

Which is correct in this sentence: "Sports is (one of the most important parts of my life)" or "sports are..."?

Sorry to disagree MiJEmotion: wink I'd say both are 'acceptable' but "Sports are" is my choice.

I think it depends.
If you are talking about sports in general then 'Sport is...' is more appropriate. But if you are referring to some particular sports, I'd say 'Sports are...'.

But if your choice is between 'sports is' and 'sports are', it is definitely 'sports are' as the word 'sports' here is in the plural.

Correct Orpheus. "Sports are..." is the choice when one speaks about sports in general. Remeber you practice _a_ sport (singular). The word "sports" (plural) is a modifier: sports equipment; sports day.
