Grammar check

I didn't believe she was capable to do such a thing.

I know thats wrong and I know what it should be, but what specifically is wrong with the grammar?

Another question: "Have you been to Italy? Yes I did."

have you been to Italy? yes, I have. I went there last year/ no, I haven't.
did you like Italy? yes, I did. No, I didn't.

The Adjective CAPABLE is followed by the preposition OF.....therefore CAPABLE OF....
If we have a verb after a preposition, the preposition needs to be in the gerund form (=verb+ing) so in this case.....DOING.........I didn't think she was CAPABLE OF DOING such a thing.
Another way to say this is...I didn't think she was able to do such a thing.

Have you been to Italy?.......
