Conjunctive Adverb Sentence Combining

Hi Everyone!!! For this exercise I am supposed to complete we are supposed to combine sentences using conjunctive adverbs in the second clause and it is kind of sad but i'm terrible with adverbs, especially conjunctive ones and combining sentences as a whole a would really appreciate some help! thanks a lot!!

1. The winter vegetable crops were devastated by flooding. Prices of lettuce went sky high

2. The city has established several new homeless shelters this year. Hundreds of the homeless still sleep in the parks.

Just need some ideas of a combined sentence, thank you in advance!!!
