At a time/ at the same time

-His late emails were full of mistakes due to the fact that he was doing too many things a the same time.

-His late emails were full of mistakes due to the fact that he was doing too many things at a time.

Are these sentences both correct? Could you improve them? Thanks.

How about with no ' prep ' in the sentence ? does it sound right ?
